The Venice Biennial 2007
Troels Wörsel at the Venice Biennial 2007
The painter Troels Wörsel (b. 1950) was the official Danish representative at the Venice Biennial 2007. The biennial in Venice is regarded as the most important international biennial of contemporary art in the world. The Danish Pavilion, where Troels Wörsel's paintings were shown, opened on June 7 2007. It was the Danish Arts Council's Committee for International Visual Art that had nominated Troels Wörsel.
The nomination included the following statement:
“Wörsel’s contribution to painting is beyond any doubt and appears in recent years more painterly and distinctly singular than ever – also in relation to his contemporaries. He is in many ways unique within Danish visual art, and it is the view of the Committee for International Visual Art that Wörsel’s participation in Venice will result in a remarkable and intelligent contribution to painting at a time when the international scene can be said to focus intensely on this medium.”
